Introducing the blog

Here we go! This is a quick post to introduce what I'm going to publish here.
I'm going to post articles about Free Software, Free Culture and Cyber Rights. You will find a post in english plus either an italian translation or a link to the website where the italian article was originally published.
Topics will range from the use of Free Software - with a focus on the applications related to music (audio editing, transcribing and tab/score software) - to the analysis of the emerging Free Culture. I guess I'll write something about digital freedoms and Open Standards as well.

Finally, an explanation about the name of the website: GNUrag (now you can see there are actually 2 words).
This name puts together 2 worlds I love: the Free Software movement started by Richard Stallman with the GNU project 20 years ago; and the ragtime, one of my favorite musical genres.

Ragtime is usually identified with the music played in the 20s/30s whorehouses, the piano of Scott Joplin, and the famous soundtrack of The Sting..
To me ragtime is also and mostly the guitar of John James, Giovanni Unterberger and Franco Befani, my old guitar master and author of nice ragtimes.
